What to look for buying a Micro Seiki DQX1000

Postby nlsrtdk » 28 Apr 2009 14:00

Hi, I'm new to this forum and thinking about buying a Micro Seiki DQX 1000. What should I spend on such a turntable and what are the things to look out for.

G'day there.

I'm no expert so I'll refer you to those that are. Try www.my-micro.de - its in German but you'll get the idea if you translate using any of the internet translating services. As always condition should be your first thought - buy the best condition model you can find.

Make sure you get an armboard or two that suits what tone arms you already have and/or are considering using. They are a popular machine and you can fit up to three tonearms at once.

Price varies depending on where you look - I think maybe you can get a good one direct from Japan for less dollars (even after shipping) than in Europe or USA but it will be 100v power supply and manuals will be in Japanese. Good luck!

Thanks for the replies. I have just lost an auction on ebay, but will keep a lookout for this particular turn table. I think the looks and option to fit extra tone arms make it one of the most beautiful turn tables ever built.
The only problem with it may be the availability of spare parts.
Are there known issues with the direct drive motor or is this one of those tables that keeps going forever without problems?

I will keep on the lookout for this turn table and off course post pictures when I've found it.

(p.s. anyone selling one in Holland?)

I don't believe parts are available other than from donor units. And the electronics and motor are potential trouble spots. Don't assume repairs will be painless.

I doubt very much there would be a problem with the turntable/motor.

There is always the possibility of future problems with electronics on all old turntables, that fortunately usually can be repaired, unless it is a difficult to source microprocessor.

Make sure the turntable works properly before purchase.
The only way to avoid future short term problems is to buy new with warranty.

I guess it will be more of a quest to obtain one of these then I first thought. Taking all your replies into consideration I will only buy one that is equipped with at least one tonearm and only for a fairly low price. I think there is no point in buying one and having it break, only to have a €1200,- ornament. Many thanks for the replies!!
