my version of revolver is in stereo, is a mono version a good investment? :)

I don't think I've ever heard the stereo but I have With the Beatles in stereo and the mix is unlistenable - must get a mono pressing. I think the mono is meant to be a better mix as is the case with a lot of albums of that era. I prefer Sgt Pepper in mono too.

Simply Red - Picture Book
Dungen - 4
Empire of the Sun - Walking on a Dream
Seasick Steve - I Started Out With Nothin and i Still Got Most of it Left
Herb Alpert - Rise

I've tried to list just ten several times, and gave up. I did notice very little jazz so far, so here are 50 jazz LPs one should have as a sort of starter kit for the would-be jazz enthusiast:

1 Miles Davis - Kind of Blue (or Porgy & Bess)
2 Dave Brubeck Quartet - Time Out (or Live at Carnegie Hall)
3 Wes Montgomery - Smokin' at the Half Note
4 Jimmy Smith - The Sermon (or Organ Grinder's Swing)
5 Grant Green - Idle Moments (with Bobby Hutcherson)
6 Sonny Rollins - Saxophone Colossus
7 Lee Morgan - Candy (or Sidewinder)
8 Lenny Breau - The Velvet Touch of Lenny Breau - Live
9 Ella Fitzgerald & Louis Armstrong - Ella and Louis
9 Sarah Vaughn - Sarah Vaughn (on Em Arcy with Clifford Brown)
10 Herbie Mann - Live at the Village Gate
11 John Handy - Live at Monterey
12 John Coltrane - A Love Supreme (or Live at Birdland)
13 Bobby Hutcherson - Dialog
14 Art Blakey - Night in Tunisia (or Indestructible)
15 Joe Henderson - Inner Urge
16 Horace Silver - Song for My Father (or Cape Verdean Blues)
17 Benny Goodman - 1938 Carnegie Hall Concert
18 Duke Ellington - Uptown
19 Bill Evans - Sunday at the Village Vanguard (or Everybody Digs...)
20 Stan Getz/Joao Gilberto - Getz/Gilberto
21 Herbie Hancock - Empyrean Isles
22 Billy Holiday - Lady in Satin
23 Freddie Hubbard - Breaking Point
24 Dollar Brand - Good News from Africa
25 Egberto Gismonti - anything (In Montreal with Charlie Haden is great, but only on CD)
26 Charles Lloyd - Forest Flower
27 Sonny Fortune - Waves of Dreams
28 Art Pepper - Art Pepper Meets The Rhythm Section
29 Henry Mancini - Music from Peter Gunn
30 Hank Mobley - Roll Call
31 Thelonius Monk - Live at the It Club
32 Oregon - In Performance
33 Ike Quebec - It Might as Well Be Spring
34 Emily Remler - East to Wes
35 Buddy Rich - Swingin' New Big Band
36 Wayne Shorter - Adam's Apple (or Speak No Evil)
37 Lonnie Smith - The Turning Point (or Think!)
38 Art Tatum - anything
39 Django Reinhardt - Quintet of the Hot Club of Paris
40 Tuck and Patti - Love Warriors
41 Kenny Burrell - Blue Lights (or Midnight Blue)
42 Gary Burton - something on ECM, perhaps with Ralph Towner, Steve Swallow or Eberhard Weber
43 Milt Jackson - 'Live' at the Village Gate
44 Weather Report - Mysterious Stranger
45 McCoy Tyner - Extensions
46 Stanley Turrentine - Sugar
47 Mahavishnu Orchestra - The Inner Mounting Flame
48 Return to Forever - Light as a Feather
49 Eberhard Weber - anything
50 Cannonball Adderley - Mercy, Mercy, Mercy (or Somethin' Else)
plus of course the entire Blue Note, Verve and Prestige catalogs...

[edit] Wait! I forgot
51 Shelly Manne & His Men - Shelly Manne & His Men At The Black Hawk Vol. 1 (this has a wonderful version of Summertime)

I'm sure there are plenty I've missed--I've pretty much stopped in the 70s, left out most of the swing era, free jazz and really hard bop, and skimped on the jazz-rock fusion while ignoring world-influenced jazz, like Shakti. Still, I think this would give the average person interested in jazz some idea of what is out there and what they might like.

Buy this lot, and you'll know where to go from here...

I find Mahavishnu's Apocalypse to be a somewhat stronger effort.

Oh yeah, would David Axelrod's "Song Of Innocence" fall far after 50?
