I read some disturbing information that Microsoft has instructed the sound card manufactureres to disable this option for copyright purposes in Vista.
1) Now, I know that New desktop PC's running Vista still have a Line-in socket, but will it work?
2) Has anyone here purchased a New laptop in the last 2 months and has successfully recorded through the Mic-in socket.
Sounds like an urban myth.
My brand new Sony Vaio with Mic input works just fine. All you need is
1) a Y-connector cable that you plug into your Tape Output (or Play) to the Mic input of your laptop.
2) software to record it. I just use a free software called Audacity. It even supplies you with a link to download another free program to convert whatever you record into MP3s.
Couldn't be easier.
If you want to go more high-end, invest in the Pro-ject pre-amp with a USB output and maybe an off-the-shelf program for better file processing.
Just so you know, there is no need to buy a USB turntable if you already have a conventional one. My Lenco is about 30 years old.
