About ten years ago I came across a completely dismantled Linn Axis TT...It had belonged to an audiophile who decided to replace the motor himself and found he was getting in too deep. He had obtained a good motor from a second Axis as well as a new LP12 motor and included these in the sale.
My questions regard proper connection of the motor wires, AC and the ribbon cable for the switch, all of which were disconnected. The schematic posted here doesn't reveal any color coding.
The ribbon cable has four conductors, one red and the others gray. Does the red face the outside or the center of the power supply PCB? There's a four-conductor screw terminal for the AC input (I assume) and I'm clueless regarding the location of the motor leads.
I build tube amps and am a competent service tech, but in this case I can't tell what I'm looking at...it's frustrating since all I need is a 10-second peek at a working Axis. I'm hoping someone can steer me towards a clear photo of an assembled Axis PS, or perhaps a sketch or a verbal description of how to plug things together.
The previous owner felt that he had ruined it but all seems good to my eyes...all parts are cosmetically good, the mechanism is simple and it's just a matter of careful re-assembly. Due to the age I plan to replace all the electrolytic caps on the PS PCB but otherwise it's straightforward. The LP12 motor will require some drilling to accommodate the spindle (there's a bearing cap on the backside) but I see no reason not to use it.
If someone out there has an Axis and would take a few clear JPEG's of the undercarriage or direct me towards some photos already posted I'd be eternally grateful.
