Mobil Velocite spindle oil if you can acquire just sufficient for your purpose.
I gather you can't go wrong with this.

A guy told me two-three drops in the bearing "well" and rub some oil with a cotton swab on the inner platter's "stick" that goes in the bearing, but from postings here it seems maybe that's not enough?

If you "fill 'er up" and when the inner platter settles it overflows can't it leak to the Valhalla and mess it up?

Any specs on that sewing machine oil? maybe a generic number so I can buy irrespective of brand?

If you follow the linn assembly instructions you use a length of paper towel or similar wrapped around the bearing housing to collect any displaced oil, then remove the inner platter, the "oil soaked" towel and wipe the outside of the bearing housing clean then replace the inner platter,no oil should get to the motor control board if you follow these instructions, linn do supply enough oil to slightly overfill on initial charge to ensure the bearing runs with correct amount after following the above procedure

Do not fill the well. 6 or 8 drops should be sufficient to "overfill."

Cheers,
Alec

the "oil charge" linn supply with the lp12 for initially filling the bearing is more than 6 or 8 drops and they instruct you to use it all.and they do expect the bearing well to be full,it is an oil bath design
This is from the assembly instructions:-

16. Charge Turntable Bearing with Oil
Discharge the entire charge of oil provided into the bearing well - i.e. two small 1 ml phials of Linn oil. Wrap a tissue around the bearing housing to absorb any overflow.
