New owner of a Denon DP-60L

Postby SHOKDU » 08 Aug 2012 06:18

Hello all, greetings! I just picked up a DP-60L a few days ago. I've never owned a TT before, but this one was in such nice condition, I couldnt pass it up. I picked it up for $250 with both the straight and S tonearms, but only one set of weights. I believe the set of weights is meant for the straight arm. I verified that the TT turns in both speeds, but now I have some questions.

First, did I get a good or decent deal? Maybe wait to answer that until after the following questions...

Secondly, both the cartridges that came with the TT have broken styluses. What cartridge is most recommended for the straight arm, considering I have the weights for it?

Third, the auto-lift mechanism does not seem to come up high enough to lift the arm. I've only checked this by pressing the button on the front of the TT. Is there something I'm not doing right, or what should I be expecting?

Fourth, the assembly that the tonearm mounts to is not solid. It seems to have 1/8" of play in it, is this normal function?

If any other questions pop up, I'll surely ask of your help! Thanks!!

You have a very good turntable. You are lucky to have both arms, too.
The manuals are here: http://www.vinylengine.com/library/denon/dp-60l.shtml
For a start, you can't go wrong with a Denon DL-110. When they are in stock (as now), the best price is here: http://www.cometsupply.com/mp/DENON/pm/DNNDL110/

Cheers,
Alec

Yes, beautiful turntable.... 8)

I have the manual version of this TT and I love it.... Re: the play you mention; it doesn't sound right to me, but which part of the tonearm has the "play" with respect to what exactly? Perhaps a photo would help... :)
