Used Denon DP-37F, should I pull the trigger?

Postby BenjaminAdams » 05 Jul 2012 05:31

I found a visually near-mint Denon DP-37F today and am thinking about picking it up on Friday (payday). It has the stock Denon DL-65 cart which I'm 99% sure needs to be replaced, but fortunately I've got something here I can stick onto it.

This is the model with the gorgeous wooden plinth.

Worth $120, do you think -- assuming everything works when I test-drive it? I know parts are hard to come by if it winds up needing repair . . . but it's just a beautiful-looking table. My main worry is the arm, I've heard reports that they can be wonky, and if the integrated circuits controlling it go out, I'll apparently be left with a very lovely doorstop.

I'd say it's worth every cent. I'm sure something could be done to put a conventional arm o. If the denon one goes phut.

I'm amazed that there's only been one response.

Here's the short version: Went back to the dealer and took a closer look at the stock cartridge. The cantilever was shot, so it would need a new stylus. It's a general second-hand shop, so there are no returns. He gave me the go-ahead to return with another cart to install on it so I can test it out in the shop.

That was two weeks ago.

Fingers crossed it'll still be there when I return tomorrow, and that it works.

Benjamin, I have the same turntable and looking for a stylus. Have you found one? IF yes, willing to share where you bought it? Thank you in advance.

Some time ago, but I hope you bought it! It's a very good turntable. I've fallen in love with the ultratechno japanese turntables and their servotracer tonearms. They realy sound very good. And Denons never stop working.
