PS-LX520 won't rotate

Postby agale14 » 22 Jun 2012 03:44

Hey all,

First post on vinylengine so you'll have to bear with me. I'm trying to get our 1980's Sony PS-LX520 up an running for the first time since it fell during the 1994 Northridge earthquake. Though it hasn't been used in 18 years it's been stored safely and seems to be in pretty decent shape, save for the fact that the table won't actually spin. Or rather, sometimes it won't, sometimes it will for a few seconds, and sometimes it will problem free only to be shot the next time I turn it on. Can anyone think what the issue might be?

For reference it's a direct drive, and save for rotation issues all other mechanics and electronics seem to be in working order.

Thanks!

A common problem for equipment that has been stored for a long time is oxidation of the surfaces of the controls. This makes them unreliable.
A good contact/control cleaner applied to the insides of all controls and switches often cures the problems. Caig Deoxit 5 seems to be a preferred one.
Cheers,
Alec
Keep them spinning.
