Sony PS-FL5

Postby dogandspoon » 15 Feb 2012 19:05

Hi,

I have just recently dusted down and plugged in my old PS-FL5 turntable after about 5 years in storage. There only seems to be one minor fault with it, the fact that the drawer only opens half way, and after 15 seconds, it slides back in again as if something is caught in it. This is not the case there is nothing on the outside stopping the drawer from full opening. Does/did anyone have the same problem, and if so how did you fix it?

Thanks in advance

I don't have a front loading turntable, but hope to some day, so I don't know first-hand - but did you check the belt that opens the drawer? It may have aged to the point where it can't fully open because of slippage.

I haven't had this problem on my PS-FL5, but my guess is that some of the inside wiring has been caught to the drawer.

The drawer is gear-driven and there is a safety feature that reverses direction after 15 seconds if the slide gets stuck.

If your remove the top cover, it might be possible to see what causes the drawer to stop. Otherwise you may have some major disassemly project to do.

See the service manual for disassembly instructions:

Another Problem - Power is alwas on on PS-FL5

Postby thafaker » 07 Sep 2012 20:31

My PS-FL5 works fine, but, the there is a problem with the power. When I power off the TT with the Button, the LEDs are shining red, but he doesnt react when I press a button. The Button is off but the LEDs are still on. Only when I plug out the Powercable, he is completely off.

When I plug in the cable again, everything is off, but after a short moment, the LEDs are shining again, without pressing the powerbutton. Silly?

It's like a "battery" who let the leds shine even the button is off.

Any suggestions?

I have just started to do maintenance work on a friend's TT of the same model. His had the same issue, would only come out halfway. As I started taking it apart and shuffling it around to figure out a way into the transport I could hear something sliding back and forth (or sideways, who knows) and after several failed attempts to see anything from either top or bottom I caught glimpse of a pencil's tip stuck between the clear door that drops down and the front of the unit. Somehow someone found a way to stick half a pencil in there. I removed it and now the transport goes out and back in all the way. The rest of this unit works great too!
