Postby warra » 03 Jan 2012 05:27

I have Sony Turntable PS-1150 (circa 1976 model) and need a relacement drive belt for the original that is badly damaged. Can anyone tell me what the dimensions of the belt are namely length or circumference, Can anyone tell me where to get a replcament as Sony no longer supply.
Thanks

Hi Warra,

Welcome to the forum.

It will be easiest if you can find a belt which is known to work on your player. Try places such as KAB and Needle Doctor. They have belts listed by make and model of player. If they don't have yours listed, you will have to measure the circumference by passing a string through the path (fair pain in your player). Reduce the length by 3% to 5% to give the proper belt tension. Measure the width and thickness of your old belt fragments.

Your machine has a fairly high speed motor (1800 RPM if you have 60 Hz or 1500 RPM if you have 50 Hz) so the motor pulley is fairly small. With small pulleys belt thickness effects speed significantly. Thicker belts make the platter turn fast. Something about the effective diameter of the pulley including part of the belt thickness. If you have to settle for too thick of a belt you may be able to grind it thinner. Look at the string on my Rondine 2. It will be considerably more difficult with your player.
