Victrola 78's

Purchased these 2 Victrola discs recently, surprisingly they were packaged with a couple of mini discs at our local auction house.

Any idea how old they might be. The discs do not have any run in or run out grooves. I have played them, and they sound surprisingly good, a little quiet but with minimal surface noise.

I'm using a Fons CQ30 with a modified Rega arm and a Shure M75 fitted with an aftermarket 78 stylus.

Are they single sided? (I'm assuming.) 10 or 12 inch. Just from the numbers the "Almost Complete 78 rpm Record Dating Guide" seems to say 1910 for the Caruso and 1917 for the other. The Caruso would be a 10" and the other would be a 12".

The Caruso recording is from November 1909. Matrix or serial number 8350. It was released on the following labels: G&T or HMV single sided no.2-032000, HMV double sided no.DB130, Victor single sided no.88208 and Victor double sided no.6004-A. A complete list of Caruso's records is found in "Enrico Caruso his life and death" by Dorothy Caruso, fifth edition 1955, published by T. Werner Laurie Ltd. I have a number of Caruso recordings from that era (but not the one pictured). All 12 inch single sided.

I do not have any information on the Galli-Curci although I have several of her recordings.

Right you are (of course, since you're looking at them) I guess my eyes crossed when I read the table headings last night. I thought it was odd when I typed it. I've not come across 10" single sided Victors, but apparently there were some.
