cheap storage solution for 7 inch 45s

Postby Dadimo » 14 Jan 2011 14:32

I am not sure how others store thier 45s, but these mini crates are not bad. I am putting a link below, usually these can be found in dollar stores, or department stores.

"peach crates"

Postby josephazannieri » 14 Jan 2011 15:30

Yo Dadimo:

These 7 inch "peach crates" are easy and cheap to make. You cut 2 pieces of 3/4 inch (19mm) plywood measuring 190 mm x 150 (7 1/2 x 6 inches) and tie them together with 1/4 (6 mm) inch slats that are shaved out of 2 x 4 framing lumber about 11 1/2 inch (290 mm) long. I can give you plans and pictures if you want, just PM me with email address.

I call them "peach crates" because a local record merchant chain called Peaches used to make them and sell them. Once I saw how they were made, I started to make them myself.

And good luck from the old do it yourselfer,

Joe Z.

Purpose built ones i use are dustproof, airtight and lockable, they cost 25 GBP each and hold 200 records, with records worth around 5 GBP each on average (realistically double or treble that in many cases) that's 1,000 GBP worth of records in one chest

...it was two years ago off soundswholesale, they are out of stock of them at the moment, but Covers 33 have silver ones for 31.99 GBP.

I use empty beer cases (12 packs of bottles) to store mine. They fit pretty perfectly. Not stack-able or anything though, but they do alright.

That is a good price. I had to make mine out of plywood when I shipped them back to the UK from Germany. I had a music room in the celler and it wasn't until I had to make up the boxes that I realised that my collection had grown to over 10K  Pleased to say that its scaled down now to 4K but I'm being ruthless and want to make a concerted effort to limit the number to under 2K. It makes sense to reduce the number as common sense dictates that if I play 5 a day I could listen to my entire collection once a year

^ i thought i was crazy at the time spending 100 GBP on four storage chests but very glad i did, i always try and get ex+/mint singles in their original sleeves and pay over the odds so the storage boxes are cheap in comparison - they do more expensive ones for jobbing dj's but these will do fine for home use, they will also protect the records from damp and cold but don't know if they are fire proof...

thought about bigger ones for my LP's , these crates each hold 150 LP's.. :D
