The sleeves are cheep paper and wide open on top to let in dust & dirt.
They are so short, 3-4 min playing time.
They were never intended to last, considered throw aways with poor sound, distortion, etc...

Well I disagree with (Disregard) all of that, because I have 4 jukeboxes that only play 7" vinyl. And you know what? They sound awesome! Especially the old mono records from the 60's.

Best thing, while all the stuffy collectors are fighting over LP's and arguing over cover condition, label I'll sometimes get a whole box of 45's for free!

I've been collecting 45's since the mid 50's. I still have some of them that I bought way back then. I like to collect what are called "box sets". These are complete albums that contain from 4-7 45s. They were popular from 1950-1958. The box sets were 45 versions of LP albums. My newest box set is the original Broadway cast of Flower Drum song on 45 ep's. This dates from 1958.

I also like to collect the colored vinyl RCA 45s. They used a color coding system in 1949 which was later discontinued with the exception of the red vinyl RCA Red Seal records. The red vinyl for Red Seal was replaced with black vinyl around 1953-54 with a red/maroon label.

I have only two of the original 45's that I purchased (for a dime!) back when I was in kindergarden...
Sam the SHam & the Pharoes - Wolly Bully
The Trashmen - Surfin Bird

Both are just beat to a pulp as we played them a lot during 'indoor recess'. And they still have my name written on them by my teacher, back from before I could write it myself!
