My First Turntable Build

Postby Timoteo » 17 Apr 2012 21:31

Hello everyone!
This is my first post here on vinyl engine. I have gotten some great info here the last month or two. I have been working on a TT project. This was my first rebuild so I have been online a lot, getting all the facts I needed to get through my build. There is a lot at our fingertips here, I really liked that!

A quick rundown of my turntable.

My dad handed down to me an old TT that he purchased back in 1970. He was stationed in Germany on a radar battalion for the U.S. Army. I remember seeing it on a cabinet shelf while I was growing up. So it was really cool to now have it for myself. I knew nothing about it when he first gave it to me. It is a Lenco L75. After a botched repair job by some lunatic that called himself a repair man I decided to tackle the job myself.

I started off just wanting to get the L75 up & running but once I started it snowballed into a full blown project. I wanted the new plinth to have a traditional/60's modern look. I used 8 layers, 6-3/4" birch ply & 2-3/4" MDF, with Ebony wood stain. Chromed cone feet from parts express (3). I am using an Ortofon 2M Red cartidge & Bellari VP-130 tube pre amp.

I have really been enjoying the sound of this table. I have always wanted to get into vinyl & just wish I had done it sooner. Here is a link to my photobucket acct. I hope you guys enjoy the photos!

Yeah, we enjoy that kind of stuff. Looks great. Just make sure the guard dog doesn't drool on your turntable...

Judas, yes it is the stock bearing/spindle. I replaced all the wiring/cables, new cart & built the plinth. Otherwise everything else is totally stock! I didn't even want to paint the top plate, even though it has a few scratches, because it was my "old man's" & I wanted it original. He hasn't seen it yet since I've done this build. He knows I did it but I haven't shown him pics. I want him to see it first in person. Pics don't do the finish on it justice.

Thanks Alternativeroute for the compliment! :)

Ok the video on YouTube is JUST NOW showing up when you do a search for: Lenco L75 Rebuild

I didn't realize it takes a couple days for the videos to post. It makes sense since so many people post videos daily. Anyways...enjoy!! :D

Well i guess its only the first time someone posts a video that it takes a day or two for the search to recognize it.

Today i took the time to polish the platter on my Lenco L75. Was time consuming but worth it. I think at adds a nice bling to the overall feel of the table. A can of Mothers aluminum polish, a container of Maguires wax & some sore fingers gets you a shiny platter haha!!!
