How to add RCA output to Crosley CR249

Postby SuperBeetleMan » 24 Sep 2012 20:04

My wife gave me this as a birthday present. It is not something that I would have picked for myself, but I didn't have the heart to tell her otherwise. It has an internal amp and very weak speakers and no outputs to speak of. Is there a way to add RCAs to this thing? I have been searching online and only came up with one article that was relavent to my cause. They used the volume knob circuit board to tie-in the RCAs. Is this the proper method or is there a better way? Thanks in advance.

If it has an earphone jack, you can get a mini phono to 2 RCA cord.

The only thing on the back is a USB out and an AUX in. Like I said, no audio outputs on this thing. I will have to due some soldering. Just would like some advice on how to make it happen.

Probably easiest to use the speaker leads. You could put in a headphone jack that cuts feed to the speakers when there is a plug in it, feeds the speakers when not in use.

Thank you Alec, great idea. Being that I'm splicing into the speaker wires, the signal would already be amplified. Do you think this would pose a problem with my receiver or would I just need to keep the volume on the turntable adjusted down low?

Keep it down. It's like doing a patch from an iPod.
As you have surmised, this unit is not worth a lot of work. After a while, you can buy a good used turntable, and say that the Crosley was an inspiration to move up. ;)
