Speakers

My girlfriend has a turntable without speakers that does not require a receiver. We got it to work using Bose Companion speakers from my computer, but it was very quiet. Any suggestions on what speakers to use for this type of turntable? I believe it has an RCA style cord.

If it was very quiet then it really wasn't working was it ? It needs an amplifier or receiver between the TT and speakers. If it has RCA connecters, rather than speaker leads then thats another clue to suggest you need an amplifier.

The fact that there was any sound at all suggests that the turntable may have a built-in pre-amp, which makes choice of amplifier or receiver much simpler.

Might help if you told us what turntable you have

af08: Yeah, and my girlfriend has a car - which tyres would she need for it? Quite impossible to answer? Right.

Same goes for your question - so if you ask such stuff, don't forget to mention the brand and model designation. Otherwise it'll be guesswork...

You need a phono pre-amp between your turntable and powered speakers.
