Rega p7 with matching amp.

Postby Metropolis » 09 May 2012 10:17

Hi.

I am very close buying a rega p7. But I am not sure what kind of amp. to use. I am probobly going for a NAD C375/ NAD C356, and a external RIIA pre.amp.

- Anyone who know this amps (or any other NAD) and know how they sounds with rega p7)?
- If anyone can recommend a suitable RIIA?

Thx

Metropolis,

Don't know the nad products but you'll be real happy with the P7-a truly wonderful turntable. Any decent amp should solve your problem, of much greater importance for the P7 is the phono stage you pair the amp with. Lots of very fine phono stages out there-what is your budget?

Thank you for reply!

For the phono stage, my budget ranges from, lets say 150-350$. But beyond this, I dont want to limit the potential of my p7. What about cambridge 651p? or the mm/mc stage from rega?

very nice if you can give me something else to.
Thanks a lot.

I would buy the best phono stage you can afford-you will never realize the full potential of your P7 with an inexpensive phono stage. The P7 is a very fine table and can use almost any high quality cartridge you want to hang on it. I prefer moving coil cartridges but many prefer the sound of a mm or mi cartridges-discover for yourself what you prefer. In any case to realize the best sound from your P7 you will need a good phono stage-personlly I think what you'll find in the $150-$350 won't do it for you. My suggestion would be spend as much as you can now and start saving up for a future upgrade.

The Cambridge is a fine phono preamp in its price range. More important than your table and arm is what cartridge are you using? That will have more effect of the ultimate sound you hear than a difference in tables
