Marantz Pm6010se Crackling Input

Postby sharumba » 08 May 2012 15:14

Hi everyone,

I've just got hold of a very good condition marantz 6010se and have noticed that on the cd input alone it is quite crackly. How easy is this to sort out? Probably being ignorant here but is it a matter of opening the thing up and spraying contact cleaner into the switch.

Any help appreciated.

Cleaning the switch will only reduce the noise made when the switch is rotating; is this what you mean by "cd input alone is quite crackly"

On the cd input you have to very slightly wiggle the input nob otherwise
It comes out slightly muffled. Didn't pay much for amp but if it's a simple
Fix I'm prepared to give it a go or I will just have to use on of the other

My experience of Marantz is similar. I have found that the connectors used to connect the ribbon cables to the circuit board can work loose. I have suspected the crimping technique that is used. A simple problem but I have not found an easy way to solve other than use the inputs that do connect securely. A pity because Marantz amps like the 6010SE and the PM40SE are exceptionally good in many sonic respects.

Thanks for the info. when you catch it right its fine so might just leave well alone. Sounds good must admit. Next step is to audition the amp against a Kenwood Model 11 i was given and Hitachi Sr903. Must admit i'm getting to like this vintage stuff....

Hi,

Haven't got a clue about electronics but the input knob connects to a long steel band that moves a switch on pcb board towards the back of the amp. I sprayed a small amount of cleaner in that switch, moved the input switch back and forth and seems to be fine now..
