I have had several speaker systems in the past 50 years...Currently using a pair of Klipsch RF7-2 speakers.I have had them for about 5 years, currently coupled to a Marantz KI Pearl amp...and each and every day I am so pleased with how they sound. The one drawback is that my listening room is not big enough to really open the system up.....

Presently using the Q Acoustic 3050 floorstanders. In the past i've only had another pair of floorstanders the highly regarded Mission 752 freedoms which i ran through an Audiolab 8000 amp. The Acoustics are playing through a Yamaha cr1000 receiver and i'm delighted with them. I don't think they are better than the Missions, just different especially in their placing abilities with more drive and authority, with the Missions needing to be placed close to a wall. I've also just noticed that Richer sounds are selling them for £350 two hundred less than i paid for them ten months ago. A bargain.

Magnepan 1.6QRs. Can't find anything for under $4000 I like better.

Having 1.7's I agree with you. However, I must admit they benefit from the addition of dual subs. Mine are crossed over at ~60Hz. Adding the subs gives them better bass than the 3.7's. I'm undecided about what the ribbon tweeter in the 3.7's can help with. The true ribbon tweeters on the 3.6/3.7's are among the best available anywhere. However the transition between the midrange portion of the panel and the tweeter causes a discontinuity. That being, because the panel and the ribbon have different dispersion characteristics.

The 1.6 and 1.7 have their tweeters as part of a single Magnapan diaphragm. This results IMO in a more coherent sound. It's more like a full range electrostic in overall coherence.

Just added a pair of Totem Dreamcatcher bookshelves to the collection. The Davey vs. Goliath speaker. The size of a small kid's shoe box with the roar of a classically trained lion. Sweet!! =D>

Bigger speakers the better. My last speakers I built were 8ft tall with 16 drivers. I now use double stacked Clements RT-7 speakers, but am selling them to get more cone surface area. I had to sell my 8ft long sub that had (4) 18" woofers in it, so now I am trying to figure out what is going to replace it.

I have the Wharfedale Diamond 250 floorstand speakers and they sound very good. My very well balanced room acoustics plays a huge role.

I voted floor standing instead of electrostatic, but I now have Magnepan speakers.

I think if you have the space , budget and freedom to play your music relatively loud Floor standing speakers are the way to go . That's what I use . Headphones IMO are only necessary when you life somewhere like in an apartment where you can't be very noisy .

Kef R100. Amazing sounding little bookshelves - but I find myself continually lusting for a pair of Kef 105/2.

You've still got floorstanders. Magnepans are not electrostatics. They are planar magnetics.
