I typically enjoy music sourced from my iPhone wirelessly via Airport Express connected to my preamp/processor. This delivers 2.1 from my iTunes library, which sounds really good. Now, I could take another route to this pleasure; but, I would still arrive at the same destination, perhaps, with a little less or more convenience executing the tasks necessary to listen to music from the library. Now, I am not a prophet yet it seems the smart phone technology I am now using is taking us to a smart phone/Bluetooth/active speaker process, which will eliminate the need for receivers, preamps, power amps, and integrated amps. In fact, we are enjoying this technology today for stereo and I think that very soon we will be able to enjoy multi-channel Dolby Atmos from our phones.

I have an Adcom GFP-555/GFA-545II combo playing through a pair of Infinity RSM speakers. Great sound indeed. I rarely have need of the tone controls.

I have two systems. First one is a perfectly working Pioneer Elite A-35R integrated that I picked up at Goodwill over this summer for only $40. It’s powering a pair of the Andrew Jones Pioneer SP-BS22-LR bookshelfs I bought off a buyer on Craigslist for $75. Currently streaming from my tablet or phone via Belkin BT receiver and this whole setup for how much I spent total it sounds very good.

System number two is my powered bookshelf speaker + sub/turntable setup for the bedroom. Klipsch R-15PM, Klipsch R-8SW sub, and U-Turn Orbit turntable with Grado Black2 cart. It shakes the whole room.

I currently have 3 set ups

Van Alstine Transcendence 10RB preamp
Quicksilver Mini Mono tube amps with Klipsch Lascala's

Kenwood KA7100 (bought new in '77), with DCM Time Windows and Klipsch KG4's.

Nad 1020 preamp
Yamaha PC2002 with Camber 3.5ti's

I bought the Yamaha planning to run a subwoofer in my tube system.
The Nad 1020 and the Camber speakers were extra's I was not using at the time.
The Camber's never sounded that great to me when I tried them in my other 2 setups,
but when run with the extra power of the Yamaha, they are quite impressive for a smaller speaker.
I only set this up to check out the amp, but I enjoyed the sound so much I will leave it as is for awhile. :D

1. Musical Fidelity A1X, purchased in 1990, still going strong, in need of a service every now and then, always with the typical A1-issues like noisy volume potentiometer and failing input switch.

I don' care, i still love it for its sound and its design, no gimmicks, just music, what justiyfies the hassle for me. The best hifi-buy for me so far.

2. CR Developments Kalypso (Valve Amp with EL84), unfortunately defective (clicking noises) at the moment, looking for a service that won't break the bank. Wonderful sound with its high-level inputs, but poor sounding phono input, so i run it with a pro-ject phonobox II, what was defective once (power capacitors failed).

3. Yamaha AX-570 as a "Backup" amp for the unlikely event that one or both of the prefered ones fail. Not bad, but not audiophile in any manner.

Now planning to get a musical A3Si or A5Si (not yet sure), i still love musical's amps for their clarity of sound.

As i'am not in a hurry, i will wait some time to see what the new owner of the company does with it. as i don't want to run out of the availabilty of spares one day....

regards

I recently bought a Sunfire Theater Grand Processor so that I could do multi channel recorded music, but it quit an hour after bringing it home, as I really got screwed on that one. I just bought a Yamaha receiver only 2 years old so that I could have extra amplifiers for the center channel and back surrounds. My front and rear channels run off a Cinepro 6 channel amp ( 500/watts ch into 8 ohm, 750/ 4 ohm, 1120/ 2 ohm). There's no substitute for wattage.
