I have four Quad IIs so that will be a lot more than just four beers. Or is it four beers each? No matter, I'm buying, sounds like fun. I'll do a Satan, but not get lost, which is fatal in our part of the world.

I'll bring the Esl's back with me in the back of the car. They will help pay for the foam bill with your new toys.

Vinyl forever.

No worries mate,
I want the esl's to go to a good home , but really if you are this way I have no problem to sort your amps (seriously) weither you buy my speakers or not (beer still compulsory!!).
Already started on the speakers, just need to recover a couple of units, but I will do the diaphram while I am in there.
If you come this way BRING RECORDS!!

My thanks to you all for your interesting and informed advice. My Quads are staying in my freezing attic for the time being... -17C the other night!

Having had leak 20, quad 303, 405 and many ii’s, it is the ii’s that totally win. They need to be properly sorted in spec with a sorted 22. If you have that and some sensitive speakers (90db/Wm+) I don’t think they can be bettered....

Valve wise IMO a fully sorted leak sounds way better than Quad II's
Quad 405 are far better than Quad II's. Quad early current dumper amps like the 405 have a very valve sound and enough grunt to drive speakers to realistic volumes. I owned both Leak and Quad II many moons ago, the leak was the most powerful and more open. Loved the leak, but my 303 and my later 405 were another thing.
405 and 303 are also getting rather old now so they are both going to need a service to get best from them.
