restoration gyrodec

Post by MERIDIAN0181 » 17 Jan 2019 19:55

Yesterday morning I recovered my Gyrodec. At the time I had the intention of selling it, but it was hard for me to decide on another dish. In my mind passed the famous Linn Lp12 (complicated to adjust), a Brickmann, also an Acoustic Solid ... but it was difficult to get rid of the Gyrodec with more than 30 years in tow.

I decided to talk with my seller, and he proposed to me to change the motor and power supply, as well as the axle, and the suspensions ... After meditating the budget, I understood that it was doing that or selling it off.

Once installed, I have been overwhelmed by the inertia of the new axis ... impresonante

Already at home, I decided to try a Step Up that I bought 3 years ago ... totally new. An Ortofon Verto.

Total absence of noise and couplings, everything and being installed in a place that I do not like.

Delight of softness in music ... (missing a cable rca between the step up and the previous .. I see what I do).

Now I have changed the Benz Silver for a very old MC, it is the one that came with my Gyrodec 30 years ago.

I need information about this cartridge. I have found nothing on the internet. It's an A&R MPX10. There are nothing about this cartridge in Vinylengine

Your GyroDec looks great! :) Good call to keep it and try to restore it and get it up as close as possible to the current specs.

So what have you done so far? I understand that you got a new bearing but did you get a new motor and new suspension springs as well?

Ok so you haven't started to upgrade yet? The original motor- is it still in good condition?

The Paps motor runs well, but i prefer a new DC motor. If you like my old motor I can sell it. With the original PSU (but without the original case)

The thing is that some people state that the original Papst motor is equally as good as the DC motor so I wonder if this is an upgrade. I've no experience so I can't tell if this is true. Maybe someone else in here has experienced the performance of both motors?

The only diference between both motor was the sound.

I think the new motor is more silence that old paps.

Ok, now I understand that you've already made the upgrades. Sounds great that you're happy with the sound so far. So what's the next step? Are you going to get a new cartridge?
