Help Replacing Belt on MB-14

Postby SkullFuck » 24 May 2012 22:52

Hey all,

I'm new to this forum, but I've searched all of its threads for info on the Micro Seiki MB-14 (curved tonearm). I bought this TT about a year ago second-hand and have enjoyed it. But the belt recently broke. I have never replaced a belt and can't, for the life of me, find a service manual online. The platter doesn't seem to easily lift-off for belt replacement and I'm wondering if anybody knows how I can go about getting a new belt on this thing.

Thanks much for your help.

Try the site above for the belt. It's a nice website.
I have never had to remove a stuck platter, but most threads advise to gently tap around the perimeter of the platter with a rubber mallet to break the seal. After a few taps around try to pull straight up nice and easy.

This is NOT good advice. Rubber mallets are totally useless as they have rebound and are far too big for this kind of job.

Also, NEVER tap on the platter's periphery as you may buckle it.

The correct method is to tap on the spindle crown with either a very small plastic mallet or a block of hardwood WHILE LIFTING UPWARDS WITH YOUR FINGERS UNDER THE PLATTER RIM.

Thanks for the replies.

So, theoretically, the platter should just lift up and off? I've gently tried lifting it off and it only comes up about half an inch before giving resistance.

So, tap on the top of the spindle?

Thanks for any help.

I use the plastic handle of a screwdriver to tap the spindle.
