DD40 strange motor behavior?

Postby gpak00 » 30 Mar 2012 12:20

Guys, my first post here so hello to all!

A few weeks ago i got a DD40, and love it! It was in a relative good shape, but i couldn't resist to give it a good clean, some polish here and there and get the veneer back in tiptop shape

However there is a strange thing; with the platter off the motor spins normal at 45, but at 33 it seems to go on/off. Hard to describe really but it's not continuous.
With the platter on 33 seems to spinn fine though; nothing strange on the strobo and no strange sounds either.

So is this designed this way? Seems off to me, but can't figure out why it would spinn normal with the platter on..

Any help/comments appreciated!

The weight of the platter is the flywheel.
You can damage some direct drives by operating them without the platter.

Cheers,
Alec
Keep them spinning.
