noisy pivot

hi,
proud owner of a nice IIX for a few months.
don't ask me why, this morning i removed the sub-platter.
some oil leaked from the pivot, so i cleaned it with a cloth (mistake, i know).
after that i carefully inserted the pivot back in his hole. now, in movement, it is noisy. not very much noisy, but before it was silent.
what might have happened?
i'm a little bit worried...
thanks in advance!

Hi

I think you need to clean out the rest of the oil and refill with exactly 0.8 ml of gear oil. The bearing relies on a specific quantity of oil to work properly, and is now running with too little oil. The design has a spiral groove running up the spindle, as you will have seen, and this is intended to 'pump' the oil up the bearing.

The Systemdek II I used to own (the round plinth model, which had the same moving parts) came with a syringe graduated in millilitres. I found it didn't work so well with too little, or too much, oil.

Please see the instructions in the Library.
