Systemdek electronic sound issues - help please :)

Postby elbatnrut » 29 Apr 2012 19:36

Evening all,

Apologies if this has been dealt with somewhere on here already - short of time :(

Just been given a SystemDek Electronic and A&R Cambridge Amp. The amp plays fine, however the turntable is not making any sound via the amp.

The table spins and I can hear the record playing very faintly from the needle. The tone arm cable runs into a similar short connector. This small extension works for my iphone headjack connector, but not for the turntable cable. I am assuming its the main tone arm cable, but was hoping for some advise before ordering parts.

Hope that's clear, sorry if not. Any ideas? I'm a newbie, so go easy :)

Thanks in advance for any help!

P.s are these of any value? Both in good condition - other than this issue!

You should be plugging the turntable into a phono input. Any other inputs on your amp are for line-level signals.
You need a phono pre-amp to raise the signal level of the phono cartridge to line level, as well as to correct the tonal balance by RIAA standards. The recorded signal has been modified by lowering the bass and boosting the treble so that they both fit and are readable, and this must be reversed.
If the amp does not have a phono pre-amp built in, you can buy a separate unit.

Cheers,
Alec
Keep them spinning.

YUP!
On an Arcam amp it's probably called "DISC" - usually at one end of the row of phono sockets on the back.
