Hi there, my motor won't turn so I'm assuming I need a new one. Anyone got any suggestions?

Don't assume.
Is the motor getting electricity?
Does the motor need oil? Does it turn freely, by hand?
Do the capacitors need replacing?
Guessing can get expensive, and frustrating.

ya I realize it could be something else, I just haven't fully removed it to test properly. ive only got it off the mount. its not siezed and hoping it is a power issue

Use a digital multimeter to check things, first. It could be that the power cord is frayed inside behind the plug.

good idea, I just tried that and power cord had current and motor did not. then switched on power and
the motor had current where wires go into it. So I guess that means it is the motor.
I'm figuring that the way into the cabinet is by taking the screws out of the feet?

Usually the phase caps or the resistor go first. It could be the motor but I wouldn't blow £50 on one unless I was (a) absolutely certain it was faulty and (b) certain that the power supply circuit wasn't the cause.

As you are on 110v you'll have to remove the series capacitor, leaving the parallel one in place as in the diagram:

And put a wire link in it's place.

You could also add one of these:

These are much better than the old Airpax 807's and 818's (which are not made any longer). Whatever you do DON'T BUY ANY MOTOR FROM A LINN LP12 - it'll cost more than a brand new Premotec and won't be as good - but then Linn owners have done that for years!

This is the one everybody uses now - Audionote, Rega etc. I've had one for about 4 years and it's very good, bought from ebay 2nd hand from a Rega owner.

You need to put a multimeter between red and grey, then blue and grey and measure the resistance. Don't worry about the exact reading, but neither should be open circuit and the the two readings should be close to each other.

Definitely check with a meter first before applying mains power.

with the power off I tried the wires and got 2.45 OHMS for each.
Am I supposed to check it with the power on as well?

No - I think that might be catastrophic for the meter...

Definitely worth doing and it does not cost much...

It appears you have 3kohm on the one coil and are full scale on the other?
In which case the full scale one is defective.

PS
It should be done with the motor wiring completely separated from the mains wiring to ensure no mains wiring faults show up.
