pioneer pl-88fs turntable issue

Postby bigbadwolf » 07 Jul 2012 21:16

Hello everybody I just purchased a pioneer pl-88fs turntable and
when I opened the drawer I noticed the platter was tilted to the
right and the platter is making a scraping sound. Next I looked
under the drawer and I noticed two rubber shocks, so I unscrewed
one and I noticed it collapsed. I looked online and I can't find those
parts anywhere. Does anybody have the same turntable with the same problem?
Would you all happen to know if there is a fix for this? Thanks!

There is a service manual here: http://www.vinylengine.com/library/pioneer/pl-88f.shtml

Cheers,
Alec

On the PL-630 the rubber socks can be repaired by coating with RTV. The RTV gasket maker basically molds itself around the rubber and holds it together. I spread it inside and out.

Hi Alec I did look at the service manual and I can't
understand why pioneer chose to mount the platter
motor with rubber shocks. The thing is I have
another pl-88fs in silver and I never had any problems with
it and I never new that's how they mounted the motor.
I was a bit curious why this turntable was $13.00 when I
bought it. As for the rtv gasket maker I will try that
rhomanski. Also is it possible to mount a different
cartridge on this turntable or am I stuck with the stock
cartridge? Thanks everybody!

Good news I just got the gasket maker yesterday and I
applied it on the rubber shock and let it dry. This morning
I went to check on it to see how it came out and then I
popped it in to my turntable now it works again. I never would
have thought about using gasket maker. That's some good stuff.
Here is a picture of my turntable. I would like to thank you
for your help. =D>

Wow - I have the same issue on my pl-88fs and will give it a try. I didn't remove them yet, but it looked like they take some persuasion to get them out. Nice to know the RTV stuff can hold up while pushing the boot back in. Let me know if I'm not inferring that correctly.
