Pioneer PL50LII Arm Lift

Postby GPHenry » 17 Jul 2012 11:15

Hi All from Downunder!

I've got a PL50LII and I've read that the tonearm lift mechanism has some sort of reservoir of silicone. The arm is currently very very slow in both directions and I'm guessing that I need to clean out the reservoir and put in new silicone.

My question is how do you access this reservoir. Is it as simple as removing the arm lift platform (the curved piece that the tonearm rests on when being lowered or raised) or is there some other method for this?

Hoping someone can help,

Cheers,

Greg

Hi. I really can't recall the details of the mechanism. I think there is a screw at the bottom of the sliding shaft right at the center of the activating coil. To access it you have to remove the bottom cover. Be careful around the super thin coil feed wires. After removing said screw you will be able to pull the shaft out of it's sleeve through the top. Clean the sleeve out. Clean the shaft. The shaft should have the notch in the middle. Coat the shaft with RC silicon oil 100 000 or less weight (i.e.Kyosho). Fill the notch with it for reserve and reassemble.

Would like to thank Hennessy too. Finally removed the shaft of my PL-115D. Unfortunately I need a thicker silicon oil.
