I've been buying vinyl since 1964, and i've heard/read most of the theories. Like most things people have extreme views on this subject, I try and settle somewhere in the middle/moderate zone, I go for 4 hours just for peace of mind.

the contact between the stylus tip and the groove is instantaneous so the hole thing of temperature rising and friction is a myth. seconds after the contact the T returns to normal (actually the T never rises in the first place but even if did it would return in sec's anyway)
