Anyone tried the Mytek Brooklyn ADC for ripping

Post by Roy Boy » 17 Mar 2019 18:05

Has anyone tried the Mytek Brooklyn ADC for ripping vinyl? I am interested in ripping @ 24/352. I have a Korg DS-DAC-10R and have been ripping @ DSD128. My objective is to have the rip be equal to the vinyl in playback. I find the DSD128 on the Korg to slightly
shave off the leading edge of dynamics and 24/192 is not close enough to the vinyl. The other issue with the Korg is that the output
ripped file is down at least 8dB that forces me to bump the output via my Minimserver/Minimstreamer set up to get enough gain
at playback. Also ripping in PCM mode offers more flexibility if I need/want to edit the file.

While the Mytek Brooklyn ADC is not cheap ($1999)...I think it may be the least expensive alternative to rip @ 24/352.

For reference my analog from end is refurbed Technics SP-10 MKII/ Basis Vector arm / Soundsmith Paua /Transition Audio Design tube phono.

My digital playback is Lumin A1.

Thanks for any insights. I thought about trying to rent the Mytek to check it out, but have not been successful in finding a pro-audio rental place that carries the Mytek

I love my Mytek Stereo 192 ADC. 8-)
Have owned and been using it for approx. eight years. Produces excellent quality results that, to me and our sons, sounds indistinguishable from the original played through high quality gear. Given that Mytek claim that this unit sounds even better (not sure how this is possible) it would have to at least, reside on your short list or potential acquisitions... ;-)

Have a look at the RME ADI-2 Pro.I have one and love the vinyl recording I get from it. I was looking at the Brooklyn ADC & DAC to replace my MyTek Stereo 192DSD/DAC & Tacsam DA-3000.But the RME is so much more DAC/ADC 768KHz & 256DSD playback and recorded and it cost only$1800.

rkay5,
The RME ADI-2 Pro looks very interesting. What software are you using to do the recording? I have a Mac and currently use the Audiogate software from Korg that goes with my DS-DAC10-R. How do you adjust input gain to set the recording level? I would want to rip
at 24/352 or 24/384...Thanks

I use VinylStudio for recording DSD or pcm above 192.The RME ADI-2 Pro has gain adjustments for recording level. You can go to RME web page and download the very good manual to fine out more.

Hi,

Have you tried to compare with the non pro model?
RME ADI-2 DAC?

For my requirements, will be overkill to buy s $1.8k ADC to rip a MM cart & SS phono.

I have a Sony PS-HX500 TT with nagaoka mp200 cart plus a project DS2 USB phono pre. I find the rip directly from the TT and throught the project phono not good unfortunately. Was thinking of Tascam DA3000 until I see this thread.

Just noticed, RME ADI-2 DAC is without ADC :(

Back to the square one ........ The cheapest alternative will still be Tascam DA-3000 (if need DSD recording) or any one of the Audio Interface (24/192 or 24/96).
