it is nice to joke here!

i am not so reserved with the amount of turntables i have.
it is a passion, but then if i had a Thorens Reference i might end up collecting less too.
by all means post some pics.
you can do this in the Thorens Gallery or in your Personal Gallery.
i will be looking forward your next posting.... in the Thorens section?

regards,
bastlnut

Bastlnut

Vintage Garrard 4HF w/custom

Postby timspell » 06 May 2009 01:14

I use several vintage TTs. This Garrard 4HF with custom red oak plinth is the oldest that sees regular use -- mainly for older vinyl and 78s. It tracks at about 4.5 grams with a Shure M55E cartridge. I use a separate weighted headshell with Pfanstiehl 864-SS77 flip-needle for 78s. Sounds nice. A plus is the convenience of an auto shut-off.

My Turntables

Postby harveywilson » 25 May 2009 03:46

I haven't anything real exotic in the way of turntables or cartridges...mostly vintage direct drives and one belt drive from "antiquity".

Pioneer PL-L1000 with P-600 cart.
Yamaha PX-3 with Grado G2 cart
Mitsubishi DP-EC 20 with Signet TK10ML and Ortofon MC-20
Onkyo CP-1057F and Mission Solitaire cart
Micro-Seiki BL-61 with Stanton 727 cart and 681EEE stylus

The top three are my favorites, altho the BL-61 is getting a lot of play, mainly because it's my latest find. Alas, I can find NO info on the BL-61 anywhere HELP!!!

The Onkyo will now be donated to my daughter's growing audio system.

Post some pics of the BL61. I seem to hear about another model in the BL series every other week. I recently saw a BL41 on EBay, a BL21 was there a while ago. I think the most common is the BL51 like I have, but there is also a BL91 and a BL111 from memory.

If you post pics we might be able to see how it is different to the BL51 and give you some info.

@ afrikane,
are those AKG 1000 headspeakers there?
Just curious for a testimonial. Too bad they are not manufactured anymore.
Thanks,

Yes sir, those are indeed AKG K1000s. Although discontinued they do pop up regularly on ebay and places like Head-fi. Recently there have been some rumours doing the rounds that AKG will resurrect the K1000 in 2010, either in improved form or as is. I hope this is true.

I have tried a few headphones these past few years with varying degrees of enjoyment, in the end I built a dedicated system around the K1000s as they appeal to these ears more than the others.

I have a Dual 1225 hooked up to a sony str-d965 which outputs to either grado sr60 or peavey criterion 2 model 112.
May not sound the best but i like it.
