Alec,

Thank you. I think that I have just the right carpet for that wall. A cool black carpet with a Porsche logo that I just could not bring myself to put on the floor... photos to come when I make that change.

And just to give you folks and idea of the layout of the room (not to scale :D )

And yes, I have not one, but two door stoppers on the hinges to avoid the door hitting the speaker...

Best place to sit is in front of the speakers, right? Right now, because of where I sit to work... I am more to the side...

If you work on the pc for several hours you could also concider a near field monitor..

The "best" solution appears the ones on the sides of the futon. Even better if you get reed of it and place a nice stand underneath the window.

Updated photo... A quick trip to IKEA for some shelves to store the records, some lights and a lamp, used a carpet that I have had, rolled under the bed, for the last 6 years. It is beginning to take shape. Still need to clean the shelves, get the model cars organized better, etc.

Can't do anything with the speaker placement. They will need to stay there :?

Wachuko, I'm going to go out on a limb here, but, you like cars, don't you?

What gave me away?

Thank you all for this site and the many threads with ideas and suggestions. Vast amount of information.

The challenge now is finding music... not easy to go and buy since I go for the stuff I know... need to start reading on record recommendations to listen to new stuff.

Cheers!

Hey Norelco, what are those speakers, they look a bit like Rectilinears.

Here are some recent photos of my all vintage, mostly Carver sound system. Since I last posted I switched to a recapped, highly modified Carver C-11 preamp w/balanced outputs and added a Carver TX-8r tuner.

My first attempt... it all started when a neighbor gave me a box of vinyl records and I needed a way to listen to them (you can see the box in the background).

I had the Technics receiver and cd player in the closet. I purchased the Dual 1019 and Polk LS 50s on craigslist.

So far I'm pretty happy with the sound, but I'd love to hear suggestions on ways to improve.

Lovely looking setup Jason but a few of suggestions,

1 Close that wardrobe door That orange shirt should never be seen!
2 Make the bed!! You will not have a nice sleep getting into an unmade bed.
3 Take the records out of the box and tidy them up. Pfft didn't your mother teach you anything about tidyness?
4 put the towel back into the bathroom where it belongs! (see point 3)

:) Seriously have you looked into sorbothane feet for the units? will not damage the woodwork and will be much better than the hand towel. The mini rug blends in well though.
