It's an Alchemist Nexus amplifier from the 90's.

Yes I was actually looking for an Alchemist Kraken, because of it's gothic Blixt Gordon sci-fi looks (and it's wonderful sound) but I couldn't find any... so I got the Nexus instead. Very nice sound. Open, neutral, transparent, details... a bit dry, but very well controlled, a stable performer with guts.

Hi, My current listening area. Main TT is a Sota Moonbeam with an Origin Live Alliance arm and Grado Reference Platinum (my Dynavector 10X5 and Benz Micro are getting ruby cantilevers at Soundsmith right now), The backup TT is a Pro-ject (acrylic platter, speedbox Denon DL110). Digital is done by an OPPO 83SE. The preamplifier is all valve of my own design as are the large power amps to the right (45 wrms full class A using KT120s), the amps on the floor are KT88 versions of the main mono blocks, not in sight are a Marchand 24 db/octave electronic crossover (set for 50 HZ) and a SS amp to drive the subs. The main speakers are Martin Logan Vistas. The big cabinets in the room corners were originally Altec Lansing "Magnificents" but are now doing sub duties with 15 inch subs.

form a technical point of view u have a speaker issue but the pic with the foot says it all !!

Serious speaker issues! The mission Floorstanders are in the corners but for the moment that's all the space I have. The plan is to move the TV to the end wall then have the speakers set below with the TT on a stand directly below that the surround sound in each corner. It'll free up the current TV stand for components and Laptop/seperate drive for MP3's. Also a space for the LP's

Following my above comments I have been jiggling around the system and furniture and have come up with this:





Again its not perfect but it does release up the speakers a bit better. The Beast is missing as the expanding wood problem has gotten worse to the point where it's now not allowing the platter to turn. However another design is being worked on and will be revealled in the projects section shortly.

in a similar wooden project i used some clear sea type vernice and no bug would ever be able to penetrate it (10 sprayed layers)

The problem I have is that the bogwood is spreading apart as it dries so it keeps tightening up on the platter. The margins are pretty tight so it doesn't take much before the platter starts rubbing and then seizing up. It's a pity but I had half expected it might do this. For now I think it's a case of putting it aside to fully dry out and settle then come back to it. I am going to re-use the Systemdek componants in the next project which is already coming along nicely.

Now this is where I fail when it comes to audio speak As I have never had the chance to hear a good setup I can't compare how mine sounds to a good setup or know if it's good or bad. Compared to how it was it's much better the right hand side speaker (when looking from the front) was muffled behind the sofa and whilst it still is a little bit, it is now a more even sound across the room. I'm still toying with setting up the Kefs as surround speakers as the Yammy has the facility for this but as I will not be connecting the TV to it (the Panasonic does a reasonably good job there) I wonder if it really is going to make a much better sound. The computer is playing direct to the yammy and the MP3's sound ok. The sound from the CD is lovely I have a selection of classical CD's (Greatest hits type thing) recorded in 20 bit recordings and these pumping out are fantastic.

When the new TT is done I cant wait to connect this up. It will be a smaller footprint to the Beast and I'm thinking maybe a shelf just to the side of where the Plasma ball currently sits similar to the one on the left hand wall. It depends on what the wife thinks of it when it's finished. If she doesn't like the look of it then it will be relegated to the shed. I've got to keep her happy of it'll all be moved out there together with me and the dog .

Hey guys,

Been a while since I posted here, but thought I'd share my listening space with you since it has changed quite a bit.

Here's a shot:



The gear is:

Speakers: IMF TLS 80 II
Receiver: Sony STR-V5, which is going to be replaced with a Sansui G7700
CD Player: Philips CD160
Turntable: Luxman PD-264 with AT13EA Cartridge and Stylus

It's an absolutely beautiful, articulate and magical sounding system. I cannot wait to get the Sansui, it's in the mail right now. I know it's going to be the icing on the cake for me. Everything else is tip top, I think the law of diminishing returns is going to set in strongly from here on out.

I also do have another listening space, it's actually the wife's stereo, but I enjoy it when I'm on the PC or just don't feel like listening to the TV. Here's a shot:

Turntable: Luxman PD-264 with Sumiko Pearl

This set-up sounds really nice. Classy, clear and direct. Imaging is not incredible due to the speakers being two-way, but raising them off the floor with those stands sure makes a big difference. It's a very nice sounding system with excellent fidelity and accuracy.
