Bath AudioFest 2012

Postby Mark E Smith's Dentist » 09 May 2012 09:05

Happening on the 26th of this month. It's cheap to get in and looks like it could be interesting - I for one am looking forward to hearing the much vaunted Soundsmith Strain Gauge cart.

Looks good Jon. Thanks for the heads up. I might be able to tempt her in-doors to do a spot of shopping in Bath that day

Well it was pretty sparsely attended possibly because it was such a lovely day. There were only five rooms, all had turntables but only three of them were using them on both times I stopped in.

The system with the Soundsmith Strain Gauge was so much better than anything else it was embarrassing but then it was >£100k worth of SET and horn.

Frank Schröder was there and I caught half of his turntable set-up lecture - unfortunately I had to leave at three so didn't hear the end but there was some interesting information there. He should write a book or do a DVD like Fremer did. I was surprised at how young he is.

There was a guy in a room with some Pro-ject gear that he seemed openly dismissive of  . They now do a Dr Feckhart style protractor which I was considering spending nearly £100 on but he basically convinced me it was a waste of time :? . Seems a strange way to do business.

Leema were there with their how-do-they-get-so-much-bass-from-4"-cones? speakers which were entertaining and, as always, relatively good value.

Still, it was only £3 which included free sandwiches, coffee and soft drinks so worth attending especially as it's local.
