though they sound very clean n crisp i need a pair of new woofers and then i ll restore them to mint condition, probably paint em pearl white too.

If you are a fan of the original sound do keep in mind that the constuction of the woofer, glue seam and all, was unique to this speaker. The links you posted describe this.

I would try to find somebody, they must be out there somewhere, who can restore the woofers you have.

Sold Yamaha when these were current and they were not my favorite BUT if they light your fire - enjoy!!

Have severely p***d off my other half, just taken deliverly of a Sony TC KE400S cassette deck from Ebay for £20.

I have been following the thread on the vinyl paradox etc and I think the sentiment expressed in it also apply to cassette's.

It should not make any sense whatsoever, but I am sitting here listening to my collection of dusty tapes, with a big grin on my face.... must be the analogue effect!

Anyone else listening their old tape collection here?

Well I went and bought a tape deck today to replace the one I bought for $189 in 1989 ... the heads were misaligned at this point as well as the record side not working. Took it apart and saw worn gear teeth.

So .... today as it would be I saw a SONY tape deck with duel autoreverse and a great deck. I was at a Goodwill Store in Auburn Maine .... paid $4.99 for this tape deck. It works PERFECTLY. I am not really into tapes but this plays them so nicely I may throw one on once in a while that I do not have on vinyl or CD, AS MENTIONED ALREADY ABOVE IN THIS THREAD I have about 600 tapes in the attic .... I don;t understand why i even bought them, I should have stuck to vinyl.

Anyway here it is ...

A Denon 3 head cassette deck, to match the one I already have, which runs a little fast, at present.

Also, a Cambridge Audio 640A v2 amplifier, to match the other one I have, so I can drive the Usher 604's from separate amplifiers in biamp mode. They also have a switch for extra speakers, so that I can switch in some ribbon super tweeters. Lovely.

bit of a theme going, here! I have two pairs of speakers (for surround sound) but only one TV. (but two dvd players, two cd players, two tuners and four record decks). Have I a split personality? :D

[ah, but only one DAT player]
kind regards, Cats

@ kevin
the yamahas came out just because of the price.. my basic speakers are old jbl's and i love em.

i have connected the ns10 studios to my valve phono and SET valve amp and they balance quite well. i think i ll order a new pair of woofers and give them a nice lacquer finish..

I see quite a few going for cassette decks here. I 'adopted' a Technics BX 501 recently in pretty fine condition and will be for give-a-way when I home in 7 weeks time if anyone is interested. Cost of postage only. It's just sat there cluttering the place up. God knows if it works or not, but I expect so judging by its condition.

I had some electrical work done on the house this week, it's improved the sound of the two systems still on the ring circuit.

My main system now has an exclusive radial circuit with 6mm cable and its own 32A breaker. I had another radial installed beside it so I can run a power amp straight off the mains rather than through the power conditioner - it might sound better that way.

It's a remarkably good value upgrade - I should have done it years ago - it's stripped more of those pesky veils from my speakers!

Likewise here Jon. Having the system in the basement run straight on its own exclusive run from the main breaker made a world of difference. Also have four double sockets to negate having to use extensions.

Well I just won me and the Hippy this lot:

A second Saturn with bits to complete his and to refurb the old one as and when bits become available.

A Sugden A48 amp (I think) need servicing

and a box of bits, well two headshells possibly with carts/stylus but not sure on this from the pics this is the bonus potential :)

All in £337 but as the headshell for the Saturn is harder to find than hens teeth (only one found to date for around £60!!! and that had gone when I enquired), the cover looks complete the brush is there (missing on Pa's Saturn) as is the power plug, I should have all I need to get his working. The rest may then be sold off to assist other owners or kept until the parts do surface and then he can have a twin Saturn setup. Imagine the old hippy DJing his vinyl collection on that pair  The Sugden once serviced will have a value (?) by all accounts but this may just need to join my growing vintage setup :)

More prosaic here  I just bought a new cartridge, Ortofon Kontrapunkt B, the one with a ruby cantilever. Never before had a such beast in the house.

This week has gone pretty well so far.

Pro-Ject RM 1.3
Nakamichi OMS-7 CD player
Denon DRS-810 cassette deck
400 gram aluminum record clamp
about 45 cassette tapes (commercial) from the local thrift shop full of everything from pink floyd to van halen to the bangles.
