This is fascinating Tim. Hope you have time for further analysis. I'd love to know what each Vector upgrade component contributes to the overall sound. The differences are surprisingly well captured.

I'm curious as well; I'll definitely try removing features (achromat, vector pulleys) this weekend and record what effect it has.

Sadly the budget won't stretch to buying a K-drive and fitting that to a mini-anni sub chassis

... and I'll have to try A/B comparing the tracks through my 96/24 DAC and hifi to hear the differences as well. Interesting also that the vinyl has its own unique fingerprint; notice at approx 13.75 seconds, on the left channel is an (inaudible to me) scratch or tick.

I wonder what those resonances are... seem to be more pronounced on the bottom (right?) channel of the non-vectors.

It's an odd resonance that is like 1.2 Hz overlaid with 15Hz. Maybe it is 1.66Hz and 16.6Hz and so related to 33.3 rpm.

Could it be suspension set-up or motor wobble and not related to the vector/achromat/k-drive?

Or could it be the motor/control board reacting to drag in a feedback loop and getting into resonance? What motor does the PT1 use and is the Mini-Anni using the Escap? Both the same motor/controller? Or could be slight stretching of the belt and back which maybe the vector eliminates a little - that whole pulling the platter from one side thing. That could also explain it being pronounced on the channel on the outside of the groove. (I might be talking rubbish here..)

So many variables..

Such a good idea, tweeking and setting up a deck by looking at the waveforms it produces! When I get my deck set up again, I'll have to get my fancy old dCS 902 A/D out.

Simon, You could of course have a proper Mini-Anni Vector by getting the plinth and suspension from Tim and sending it all off to FF for the full vector with K-Drive.

I wonder if it's the K-Drive's different feedback mechanism that is giving the clean look to the waveform above everything else, in which case it could also be a big difference between a VEctor'd Anni and the Rock/Orbe/Project (trying to bring the thread back at the same time...).

I still think it might be worth recording a test tone from all three. You could see how each system responds to small perturbations by slowing the platter slightly with your finger.

FF have offered to upgrade the broken V drive on my export to the latest version so I might bring that to the audition. However, it's been three unanswered "yes I'd like to go ahead with that" emails later over the course of 6 weeks...

Result! FF have come back with a confirmation that they'll do the upgrade. It'll be interesting to see what that sounds like. They said it would be a big improvement.
I'm quite excited; I haven't got to tinker with a TT for a while.
