More Pt Anniversary Issues!

Postby horfield » 20 Jun 2011 00:22

On checking my Anni yet again, I've discovered what could be a major problem. In order to stop the platter from bouncing off of the top plate I have to adjust the suspension to such an extent that the armboard stands 'proud' of the top plate. Doing a quick bit of arithmetic on platter/armboard height, it will mean that the arm board will be too high for the Origin Live Silver Arm (and most other arms) I hope to install once I receive the armboard from Emporium. Were all the armboards produced for the Anniversary of all the same thickness. I have and early Anni, serial number 139, (with a non battery powered PSU). Any thoughts on this will be helpful as I am completely 'foxed'?

Is your armboard one-piece? All my one-piece PT armboards are about 30mm high. if so, you could go for a FF balsa armboard (10mm thick) plus a thin spacer (say two 6mm spacers).

However... it sounds to me like something is not quite right in your setup; there should be about 6mm between platter and baseplace (which should be about flush or just below the edge of the plinth) and with a Vector or Anni, you should be able to get away with a smaller gap, as long as the platter does not hit the top plate when starting/stopping.

In normal use, if the platter was oscillating so much it could hit the top plate from a height of 6mm, I'd look at better isolation for the t/t, or moving onto dry land!

Anyway, I'll shut up now and let someone who actually has an Anni do some talking!

The Anni armboards are thinner than others so perhaps yours was bought by the previous owner to fit a particular arm but found a non-Anni version.

My current Anni came with a board that had the spacer (normally fixed) removed so as to remove the weight. It had been then spaced using some M8 nuts which were a similar thickness - worked well.

Can you take any photos?

I cant see this being a problem, the armboard and platter are 'fixed' in relation to each other so that when one moves up/down, as you adjust the suspension, so does the other...your OL arm will fit if you try it, the fact that the armboard stands 'proud' of the top plate makes no difference other than it looking a little odd. The arm sitting a little higher just means you have more 'space' underneath to mount it  metaphorically speaking of course, if on the other hand your using a non standard Anni armboard, ie one from a PT1/Too then your arm in relation to the platter will indeed be too high....

For information.....my original Anni armboard is exactly 23mm in height, my homemade version (c/f, end grain balsa and foamex spacer) is 24.4mm and for all intents and purposes fits and works fine, just a minor adjustment to the suspension is needed to make it sit flush with the top plate :D
