Pt Bearings - Interchangeable Between Tt's?

Postby horfield » 18 Jun 2011 16:58

Is it possible to change the bearings between different makes of PT's. Basically, I have a PT Export and PT Anni, and would like to swap the Export bearing (spindle + sleeve) to the Anni, as the Exports bearing is a lot better. Before I start stripping anything down I'd like to know whether the fixings, spindle height, mounting holes are the same?

As far as I know, bearing+spindle sets are interchangeable between PT1, PT Too, Export, and Anniversary and Funk PT Vector upgrade - I have tried all but the Anniversary.

The Funk Vector and Saffire have slightly different mounting points; the three screw holes are in a larger equilateral triangle. Current Funk Firm replacement bearings come with six holes in the base, three to fit the Funk decks, the other three to fit all the PTs.

Heights and all the dimensions which matter (for platter holes etc.) are all the same.

cheers,

Tim

Note that some bearings have the holes threaded, some don't, so move the bolts (and nuts/washers) with the bearings!

Check the height of the bearings. The latter ones are slightly taller and I had to cut a hole in the top plate to get the motor higher otherwise the belt kept falling off.

I stand corrected :D I would imagine with an Export and an Anniversary you should have no problem, but no guarantees... I had no problems putting a spindle-jewel bearing on my old bearing-jewel PT1, and in all my other bearing swapping.
Still, taking them apart is all part of the fun!

Thanks Guys,
On checking bother my Anni and Export have threaded bearings the only difference (apart from the cup sizes are different and therefore not just a case of swapping the bearing sleeve), is the that the Anni is secured by hex bolts and the Export by cross-head bolts. Is it recommended that I use some form of locking compound to secure the bolts?

hopefully there will be no vibration! Certainly if there is, it won't be enough to loosen the mounting screws so you shouldn't need any locking compound.

Take them apart and compare! It's easy enough.

The time taken to go on here and ask and then wait for answers that may or may not be correct (how would you know?) and then may be different for YOUR Anni and Export, you could have found out for yourself (and built up confidence in taking them apart).

Some bearings are longer than others but I don't know why - whether it's for certain models or after a certain date. Some bearings are mounted on top of the subchassis, some underneath - I can't remember which is which.
