Sorting the wiring on the 774 was well worth it - but then I had to :!:

T'is a pity there are not any bitsa PT1's around, there was a platter and spindle on the bay recently, might have helped you get hold of a replacement spindle cheaper - especially if it means everything fits together as it should.

I will ask Arthur about the length of the new bearing. Surely it can be
made to match the original, or you would imagine so. Did Satanfriendly
discover the problem upon delivery?
Before I posted the bearing top part to Funk Firm I as playing Yassou N'Dour's' SET'. I was spellbound by everything about the sound and there were some bass notes that were so sharp in attack and decay yet so low in frequency the like of which I had never before heard except at a concert.
The PT1 and Mission 774 does seem to be a winning combination.
Good as it is I will probably sell my OL Silver and keep the Mission.

On delivery. I presumed that it would be an exact match. Perhaps AK could say otherwise, but certainly in my there was a difference.

Hoping to get Arthur K's impression of the bearing tomorrow.
Meanwhile I was wondering why the arm is only attached to the base-board
by two screws. Looks like the wrong baseboard to me.

The photo makes the rust look worse than it is actually. It sounded fine
when I had it running on the dodgy bearing. Will give everything a clean
up - electrically and the appearance.

Abril was recently selling a SME armboard for PT's which is correct for a 774 should yours be the wrong item. 4 screws it should be.

I do indeed
It is actually an MDF board for an Export
[album]9520[/album]
and all the mount spacings are the same but if your mounting arrangement on the subchassis is the same as mine it will sit too high however if the underside of the board is counterbored it will sit approximately 5mm below the top plate and the arm will fit no problem.

Well I am definitely interested. I need to hear from A.K first though and he said he will contact me at the weekend.
Looks like prices have just gone up at the Funk Firm by the way. Their
arm boards are now £65. Just hope the bearing is still £190.

Well the promised contact from A.K for the weekend failed to materialise.
He told me last week that the premises would be closed this week so I
don't know when I will hear from him. How frustrating - I have had a
taste of the wonderful PT1 and don't know when I will do so again.
Judging by Satanfriendly's experiences it may be some time

Now have relinquished the PT1 I bought to the spares department.
However the new one I bought a couple of days ago has a good bearing
and I need to buy a good armboard so I can fit the 774 correctly to it.
The armboard that the old deck came with appears to be drilled
incorrectly for the 774 allowing fixing with just two screws.
Thing is I need to be sure before ordering a baseboard from Arthur for the new deck that the base of the 774 will fit. Could someone please tell me what
the hole spacings should be on the 774 arm base.

I'll get back tomorrow with the hole spacing dims as I've just had an armboard made for an Ariston for the identical Mission and have the numbers somewhere.

In between have you tried Abril and his 'ready made' item he's selling?

I was hoping that Abril might come up with some dimensions and I
am happy to go on the waiting list if he goes into production
with his alloy/ balsa/carbon fibre wonder board!

Hiya

Hole spacing on my MDF board is 40.5 * 59.5.

Still got plenty of balsa and 2 off 115mm squares of CF left and the 1mm ally is easy to get hold of and bend to shape
