Best arm combination ever?

It seems that the Mission 774 Original and PT1 PT Too is an amazing combination http://www.vinylengine.com/turntable_forum/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=46134.

I have to agree as I have this combination myself, I have tried upgraded Rega 251/301 and they sound positively dead in comparison. I have never felt such a tingle as with this combination and even the Denon DL-103, which isn't supposed to work, sounds bloody amazing. With my AT OC9 the setup steps into heavenly realms.

I am of the opinion that the 774 Original is a very underated and under valued tonearm, somewhat of a bargain.

Nothing else I have heard compares.

Never liked the 250/300 for precisely your reason but the Audiomods gets close,but still not that 'brrrrrrrrrrr' factor

I agree about the Mission 774 on a PT1. I used mine with a number of carts but the best was most likely with a DL160 and WOW!!!
I didn't have a DL304 at the time but wish I had as I bet it is just sublime.
On an LP12 the 774 / DL304 combination makes the old fruit box sound pretty damn hot.(better than I've ever heard an LP12 sound to be honest).

I used to have the 774/DL304 combination. Now have Zeta/DL304. Tons of articulate bass which was rather light I thought with the 774 despite it's many qualities. Not sure how much is due to deck upgrade (PT1 to Vectored PT1) however.

I have a 774 with one of jclovesmusic modded armtubes and underslung counterweight and the combination gives a much more well defined bass than the original parts, i still however prefer the Helius Orion

Unipivots seem to go nicely with Pink T's. I've settled down to a Hadcock 228 as well as a Consonance T988 and had musical experiences. I have tried Audiomods but have not been quite so convinced.

if you can try one of the Nottingham Analogue arms, they work really well on a Pink T

Agree entirely here as you know from my PT days (and to be relived at some point). Liked the NA so much I am going to try it on an Oracle the next time home.

Seems odd about uni's and PT's as some called 'well informed' dealer told me they would never work as the deck 'oscilates' continually. Someone talking out their ass? as I Can't say I ever noticed this for myself.

You have to look closely for telltale signs of the trousers flapping

P.P.S . I don't know about best, but I'll second the Helius Orion recommendation - Helius arms look the biz, and the cueing lever action is very light and precise, so it doesn't upset the suspension, unlike the Rega derivatives I have tried.

Has anyone tried any more unusual arm combinations, rare arms etc?

I've heard a Brinkmann is supposed to be a nice combo on an Anni (or Breuer Type 8 ). I had a Sumiko MDC800 on mine which was great with a Koetsu Red.

The dealer I bought my late Anni from (a dealer in Cambridge - was a their old demo deck rather than a trade in) had mounted on it a Roksan Artemiz. Unfortunately I had to sell the Artemiz to kind of fund the purchase, if you see what I mean, so never spend much time trying it out. However, they were recommending a Wilson Benesch Act One.

Always worked well enough for me with Denon Dl110/160.

Experiment with the damping and you should be fine
