Hello again,
Well the Tizo Acryl Platter for my RPM 1.3 arrived a couple of days after my last post. Sorry it took so long to reply but I work a 12 hour day, 7 day on shift in a hospital lab and have not had much time to listen. Here is a picture.

Sorry about the quality, all I have is a cell phone. Well, I guess I should give some impressions. My first impression came after unboxing the platter, it is quite a bit more massive than the stock one. It is designed to be used without a mat so it is correspondingly thicker, and it has a cutout for the record label. Installation was easy, the tool to remove the stock bearing was included and took a couple of minutes. As far as set-up I made no changes the VTA was still spot-on and the TT was still level. Ok, how about the sound, well the first thing I noticed was the last bit of motor hum that I had not been able to get rid of was gone

that was almost worth the price of admission alone. I assume that the small amount of hum that was still noticeable was either coming through the plinth into the platter or from the belt into the platter, either way it's gone. The second thing I noticed was the TT sounded completely different, so much so I had to switch platters back and forth to make sure I was not imagining it. I finally realized that it was the pace of the music that was different. So I strobed it to see if the motor was not able to spin the heavy platter as well as the stock. Mind you I liked the new sound much better! As it turns out the speed was slightly more accurate than before. I can only attribute this to the inertia of the more massive platter. It is a small difference but seem to make a large difference in playback I put on a couple of wonderful quality Harmonia Mundi Classical pressings I purchased in the 80's and it almost sounds like there is a different conductor compared with the stock platter. Other than the pace the most significant SQ difference was in the bass, it seems tighter and more prominent than before, much more pleasant. I have to say that I am very pleased so far! I have an Ortofon 2M Blue on order and should get it Saturday and am looking forward to the results of these tweaks combined.
Regards,
Shawn
