Debut III or Essential?

Postby Siloe » 20 Aug 2012 11:19

Hello, I was just about to buy Pro-Ject Debut III, but a supplier told me it was sold out. I was offered Pro-Ject Essential instead and I wonder what is the difference between the two. I see they both have the cartrige Ortofon OM 5E, but the platter of Debut III is heavier... Is it advantage or not?
I am a newcomer in the world of turnables, so I appreciate advices from anyone who understands it better than me (which is everyone here, I guess :)) and who can compare these two turnables.

Thank you!

If the Debut III isn't available, I'd recommend the new Carbon. Another option would be the RPM-1 Genie 3. The weight difference does matter. The specs on the Carbon are better than on the Essential, meaning the speed stability should be better on the Carbon and the noise should be lower.

I agree, get the Carbon if you can.
