Hiya Guys,,i have acquired a project debut2 turntable,,firstly it is in excellent nick but when i connected it to my amp there is a hum that is unbearable. Its constant and i cannot even hear any music at all coming through the speakers just a loud hum that drones on and on and on,,well you get the picture,,,can anyone out there help a novice please ,,,Thanks John,,oh yer it is the turntable where i have to use a 16v adaptor to power the deck. I also have one that is 240v and this works without any problems what so ever,,,do i need to buy one of those project phono boxes even though my amp has a ground screw on back of amp which is sound as i try all my turntables on it but its just this 16v one that makes the noise,,,,John

Check the stupid stuff first.
The RCA plugs should be a tight fit on the connectors. If they do not require a bit of effort to get them on, pinch the skirts.
Also, try undoing the ground wire. Sometimes this helps.

Cheers,
Alec

To check if the ground wire is creating a ground loop, just undo it at the other end.
BTW it should be connected to more than "a piece of cardboard." The connection should continue to chassis.
Use a multimeter to check the continuity between the headshell and the RCA plugs.

Similar problem here with a Debut 111 that's not as bad but still annoying. The ground is only connected to the silver cardboard cover. There is a nearby tab that has nothing connected to it. Could that be the "chassis connection" that is missing?
