Changing RCA cables

I have a Pro-ject Debut 111 and am pretty sure I have a short in one of the hard-wired RCA cables which causes either a periodic hum or no signal in one channel. If anyone has changed cables on this table, is it a big problem? What replacement cable did you use? Thanks.

Did you check the cartridge clips/wires. I had a similar problem with my MMF-2.2 and the problem was there. Very fragile wires that are easily broken swapping cartridges.

It's not hard to remove the tonearm. I did it with the help of this page:
