This box set will take almost twelve and a half hours to get through, and I won't even get through half of the box set in one day.

Currently listening to Symphony No. 36 in C Major "Linz". Only four symphonies remain in the box set to listen to, then it's on to Beethoven. But I've got a funeral to go to in another state, and so the Beethoven records will be held off until afterwards.

Wonderful music. Very pleased to see that boxed set Darth

Tonight started with a Max Reger Violin Concerto on the East German Eterna label.

Then a DG Festival of Hits of KarlHeinz Stockhausen.

Last record for tonight is R Strass Also Sprach Zarathustra - a young Zubin Mehta with the LA Phil on a London LP. Great performance.

Wow still getting sealed records ! I only have 3 and am waiting for the perfect moment to crack them.

I'm glad to hear you are still on the hunt. I must confess I keep saying I'm done and have a small stack I have not even listened to yet, but the call of the vinyl,, it beckons, the prospect of something divine.

Good hunting for you!

Near mint shape and I would say better than average Columbia 6 eye Pressing. The performance is quite good.

Ended up buying another copy of the record, one graded near-mint. Just my luck that this current copy has got noise issues. My previous copy doesn't sound clean either. I could try my black-label copy, but I know it will distort. I asked for a Sumiko Black Pearl cartridge for Christmas. Do you know if this cartridge could solve the noise issues?

Speaking of the replacement, it cost under $6 total online at Discogs, graded near-mint. Seller said it is unplayed.

Posted after the record started playing. There was a sudden skip backwards in the second movement near the end, but it happened once only. I can edit it out. (How do I know? The tiny ticks preceding it on the recorded waveform.)

Yes I think it is the silver lining of living so remotely here in Northern Ontario- when I am able to make a trip into the city, there are at times small treasure troves of sealed LP's my theory is that remote living = higher % of audiophiles/vinylphiles since reclusion has extra 'hobby requirements'...though I could be wrong.
Regardless i like your phrase- the prospect of something divine :)
happy hunting to you too!

Gravitar8,

I am experiencing a problem with this box set. I am hearing short "rough sledding" like noises in the vinyl on this box set when playing on my turntable. It does not happen across an entire side, but it happens more often than I'd like.

Given that I did not experience this with my Otto Klemperer LPs nor the Karl Bohm box set of Mozart Symphonies, and I did hear it on these Beethoven LPs, what could be the cause of the problem? Is this non-fill or stylus-caused damage? The sound quality is otherwise coming out great without distortion. Looking under bright light, it doesn't reveal much. My UV flashlight does not reveal the grooves turning gray much. I'm about to pull my hair out, and cancel the recording of these piano sonatas and wait until I get my Sumiko Black Pearl, or switch to my previous box sets of the sonatas, which unfortunately are later pressings. This is making me wonder if my stylus is revealing noise I do not want to hear. Maybe this stylus is not a good candidate for these records. They're not loudly pressed anyways. I could cancel these and go straight to the symphonies, going back after finishing but using a different stylus or one of the other copies of the box set.

Getting another copy of the box set would be expensive.

By the way, I checked my setup and the stylus is aligned well to the SME protractor.

I love MHS recordings, I have a number (Pachelbel, Telemann and some others) and all are wonderful performances and the audio is first rate. I would love to find this Vivaldi.
