Did you buy any Vinyl today?

Picked up a copy of Mussorgsky-Ravel Pictures at an Exhibition the other day. This music is too short for an LP, so, the solution: reduce the size of the record! The copy I got for $1 at an Op Shop is a 10" Decca and the piece is played by L'Orchestre De La Suisse Romandie conducted by Ansermet. I'll give it a clean soon and then have a listen.

You lucky blighter, you've got yourself a bargain. This is presumably from the same master tape as Decca SXL 2195 where it's coupled with The Huns by Liszt; good copies of that go for £100 plus. I love the Decca classical recordings of the period; at the time they were sometimes referred to as the Decca "zinc tank" because of the acoustic, and they are still some of the best recorded (and pressed) classical vinyl available.

That's interesting, I haven't had a chance to clean and listen yet. The 10" is mono and the one you refer to looks to be stereo. Wonder if it is the same. Hopefully it is still in good condition.

All bought from Rooster Records in Exeter. Excellent shop, really well laid out and nice and tidy! Will be back there soon to try and haggle him down on his copy of Nick's Drake Fruit Tree boxset (oh how i want that!!)

This is one of those albums that just defies description. Stetson uses circular breathing to create epic walls of saxophone that sound completely inhuman at times. The album was allegedly recorded in single takes with no overdubs other than some vocals and avant-garde spoken word by Laurie Anderson and Shara Worden.

I actually got this yesterday, but seeing as I was using it to play the Guess the Album Cover game, I thought I'd wait until someone had guessed it.

Sad story, actually. I'd been eying this up in my local store for a while, and finally got around to grabbing it. Got it home, and ACK! - only one disc, sides 3+4. As always though, the guys at the shop were more than helpful in reordering a copy that should come in next Tuesday. Now I just have to wait....

To be honest this is the first pressing of the album ive heard.
It is as crystal clear and full as you'd hope though, the beginning of Damage Inc and Orion are especially good. It was only £20 so deffo worth it for me. Although strangely the 'Black album' was £50 for the same experience.
