Nice to see you back, Jan!

Janet Baker & Elizabeth Harwood are famous artists. Not sure about the other.

Enjoy

Got a couple of 10in Columbia LPs of Robert Casadesus in mint condition. Very nice recordings despite them being in mono: Chopin Ballades & Chopin Sonata No. 2. Also got a couple of Rudolf Serkins, Morton Gould, etc. in mint 10in. LPs. Just have to clean them. Got them for about 20cents each.

Yes...

Ashkenazy plays Chopin, Side A - 2nd Piano Concerto with the almost spiritual 2nd movement. The notes sound so perfect and yet it was recorded in 1959.

Peter Gabriel - So Album, Sledgehammer and Big Time and a sublime track with Kate Bush - Don't Give Up.

Usher - Yeah!, an imported 33rpm single which reminds me of a fave film, Hitch - it's the music that he tried to dance to and Hitch says... Don't ever do that again!

Finally... Sinatra at the Sands, a live double LP with Count Basie that sounds superb.

Supraphon 1 101599: Mozart Piano concerto NO.25, Ivan Moravec, piano, Czech Philharmonic, Josef Valch cond. Truly excellent! This is one of Mozart's mature offerings, with different twists from all others. Moravec is uniquely good on the piano, the orchestra plays well, and the recording is full-bodied true-to-life. Special recording altogether.

I picked up some Surfaris- Wipe Out, and two Ventures ablums. They are not in the greatist shape.

not today, but...

I can't believe I found this after so many years, in a small shop in Santa Monica last week.

Back in '78 my older brother came back from an extended stay in England with this record. It was my first exposure to Ramones, Dead Boys, Talking Heads, New York Dolls, The Damned, or Flamin' Groovies. This record changed my life.

The really weird thing about this record (aside from the misguided title) is that it was released on the Vertigo label, which was mainly known for European Prog music - the very thing that punk was out to destroy. It brings it all back to me how nobody really knew how to classify this stuff at the time, which was part of why it was so exciting. I have most of this stuff now on individual albums (the Dead Boys tracks are rare early mixes on this comp), but this record is priceless.

Thought I'd try some classical so I got Tchaikovsky's 5th Symphony for $AU5, I think it is the one I remember as a kid. Anyway the vinyl looks good and it's Deutsche Gramaphone so it should be a good performance and recording. I still have about 10 recent purchases I haven't cleaned and listened to so I probably won't listen to this for a while.

I bought the Beatles red & Blue double albums. The red album is one of the best sounding LP's I own.
