Anyone know a way to fix a missing runout groove?

Postby hezagenius » 20 Aug 2012 07:43

Seems side C of my copy of Ancestors "Of Sound Mind" is missing a runout groove. At first, I thought there was something stuck in the groove that was causing it to repeat the same little bit of music (and maybe there is) but after cleaning it a few times, it still got hung up in the final moments of music on the side. After looking more closely, I noticed there is no runout groove so that was probably why it got hung up.

Is there any way to fix a missing runout groove?

Sounds like it was done on purpose. I've got a few records that go into an eternal loop, in fact one album I own the running time of the final track is listed as ∞.

Yeah, I wondered that. Seems odd to do it on side C and not side D, but maybe. It's just weird because it has a sort of scratch sound each rotation, I guess where the stylus is jumping the groove wall? I dropped the stylus into the dead wax area and it did not pick up a runout groove so it was either intentionally left out or they just forgot it.

My guess is that it's intentional.
