There are lots of great artists and collections on that list, but many of them (particularly from earlier eras) are not going to be on vinyl -- or will be exceedingly rare and/or expensive.

That's probably true, but that's never stopped me from enjoying music, even if it's on cd...

I had a Marantz CD player back in the 90s. It was bright indeed!

one of my favourite jazz-lps i own is Chick Corea- My Spanish Heart
i also recommend Oscar Peterson Jam Montreaux ´77 (Clark Terry, Dizzy Gillespie, Eddie Lockjaw Davis, Niels Pedersen!!!, Bobby Durham) I think its just ammazing what they play on this record.
another LP i absolutely love is Matana Roberts-Coin Coin Chapter One Gens De Coleur Libre. it is a really modern, free-jazz conceptional album and i think the first one in a series of albums. if you like some experimental music you should really listen to this. i consider it as one of the best records i have ever heard.
and talking about Matana Roberts: i´ve got a question, hope you can help me. it has 4 sides and they come on 2 10inch. why?

I couldn't possibly tell you what to listen to, but I will say that you really need to go down the CD route. In the 80s, 90s and up to the mid 2000s, jazz albums on the big US labels (Blue Note, Prestige, Contemporary, Riverside etc) were reissued on CD in their THOUSANDS. In the 80s and 90s you had to pay full price for them, but by the mid-2000s they suddenly became much cheaper.

I must have bought 300-400 new CDs between 2006-2009, and I don't recall paying more than £6/7 each for them. Indeed, there was a time when you could pick up dozens of brand new Blue Notes for less than £1.50on Amazon. Fantasy and Oldies.com also sold off hundreds of OJC titles for about $4 each. At those prices you could afford to take chances on artists you were unfamiliar with, which led to some great finds.

I don't buy them any more (I don't really need to, with plenty still sealed on the shelves!) so I couldn't say how much they cost now. If you do buy them from Amazon, you'll usually be buying from US sellers, so you may have to wait a while.

Hmmmm. I have a Marantz CD6004 and it is very far from bright. In fact compared to my old Sony CDP-XE900E, it sounds positively analogue! It is their latest model though, so perhaps things have moved on from the days of the CD63 KI Sig, which was the deck to have back in the day (and which still fetches impressive money on ebay!).

I did not know about The Allman Brothers Band, wow! Everything I like in one LP! Jazz, Blues, Rock, Country!!

And this was all online... so I paid a premium for them. I need to stop by the local vinyl store to see if I can find some bargains.

Ramsey Lewis is a favorite of mine. This is my favorite album of his. "The Piano Player" from 1969 on Cadet Records. All of his are good but I like his recordings from the 1960s on Cadet. Love this swinging '60s Jazz sound.
